Hibiscus water | Agua de Jamaica

It's Summer and boy is it hot hot hot! In these times, a really nice fresh cold drink is in high demand. Nothing can go wrong with Hibiscus water. The nice thing about this flower, is that you can make it both a tea or a fresh water. To make this water, it just really depends on your preference. If you like it a bit sour or if you like it sweet, it is all up in the air for you to make it to your liking. You also do not need a lot of Hibiscus half a pound is really enough and for this recipe you only need 3 ingredients. The things you will need are...

  • 1/2-1 pound of Hibiscus
  • Water
  • Sugar

1. Place your Hibiscus flower into a pot with water.

2. Let the pot come to a boil.

3. Once the flower is soft remove from heat and you can wait until the pot is cooled down, or you can pour the pot over a strainer into your jug.

4. Once its all in the pot, you may add the water. I started with half a gallon of water and gradually added to my preference.

5. Then add the desired sugar. Hibiscus is known to be sour, so adding sugar makes it delicious. Be cautious that it is not too sweet but if it does turn out sweet, just add more water to even it out.

6. The last step is to add the ice.

7. Place your jug in the refrigerator to get cooled and serve when ready.

ENJOY!
