Mango Icy | Mangoniadas

Yes Summer is over, but come on we know us Mexicans can eat anything at any time. We can have some nice hot posole on a hot July night, or some raspados on the coldest day of the year. And with this global warming it is hotter than hot on days it should be nice and cool. Anyway, since I moved away from the city to a suburb in the middle of nowhere, I have not been able to track down a paletero (Ice cream man). One day, I was looking through my pantry, and I noticed that I had everything to make my favorite slushy... Mangoniadas! I was so excited and worried because I didn't want to disappoint myself. I got motivation from my Husband who excitedly encouraged me to try it out. So I did, and it was the best thing I could have done! The things you will need are...

  • 4 mangos (Depends on how much mango you want in the slushy.)
  • Ice
  • Chamoy
  • Plastic cup
  • Blender
  • Tamarindo candy stick
  • Chaca Chaca candy
  • Tajin
"Alright, let's put it all together" -Rosanna Pansino

1.  Peal and cut up your mangos' into squares.

2. In the blender, add 1 1/2 cups of ice, 1 cup of water and 1 cup of mango.

3. Blend until all the ice is thoroughly blended but looks slushy and add a pinch of sugar if needed. (The mango releases its own sweet juice but if you have a sweet tooth like I do, you may add sugar).

4.  In a plastic cup, add chamoy and tajin ito it.

5. Then, slowly pour in the blended mango. Add some chucks of mango, and some more chamoy on top with tajin. To top it all off, add the tamarindo stick and the pieces of chaca chaca candy.

ENJOY!
